What Will Your Legacy Be?
Poetry Friday

Beloveds,
Legacy according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is “something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past”. In the example sentences of legacies they use “a million dollars, love and respect, pain and suffering (from war), or artistic legacy living on through children.” In what ways do you think about legacy or have you thought about it at all? Our world moves so fast, daily pressures surround us with to-do’s, and we sometimes just get through the day and be thankful. I get it!
For the past month I have been immersing myself in the history that touches my personal life. I’ve been reading about those who have formed the denomination I attend and I am taking a class that explains the history of those who have come before me in pushing for justice and inclusion. I have a friend who is delving into Celtic Spirituality!
All this to say we all have people who have come before us that have paved the way for us to be who we are today. I have been thinking about my own legacy. It’s not something that is going to make the headlines or make me a celebrity but it is changing the world in the circles I travel. You are a part of changing the world too! I encourage you to meditate on those who left a legacy for you in all the ways that touch your life. And, I invite you to think about the legacy you want to pass on to those in your own life. It’s not too late not matter how old you are to make a difference!
Blessings,
Jace
Ripples
I can’t reach you, you far off,
you unborn, you yet to come.
I can’t reach you, touch you.
converse and engage you.
I can’t reach you, embrace you,
you beholders beyond my borders.
But my love invested,
my ripples,
in time, just might.
Steve Page from hellopoetry.comWhat is a Legacy?
What is a legacy?
Is it something you buy,
sell,
pay to see?
Something materialistic and formed from greed?
No.
Legacies are consistent of flowers planted before they bloom.
Legacies are what make paintings of hope and oceans of tears.
A legacy is the better version of what we have left behind.
It's completed by someone who continues our ideas and expands on
them.
Or break them down entirely.
A legacy is someone who cares enough to pick up where you left off.
Your legacy will be what you make of it.
Your legacy will be unfinished, unperfected.
You will make mistakes.
Will you let your mistakes consume you and eat you alive,
or will they become your legacy?
Death won't discriminate, it will only take away the time you need to make the perfect legacy.
But there is not one perfect legacy in existence.
Legacies are what we give to our future world that we never get to see.
So I ask you, dear reader,
What is your legacy?
