Soul Imaging
Poetry Friday

Friends,
I was sitting in a medical facility this week and while I was sitting in the waiting room, I noticed there was a sign above one of the doors which said “Imaging”. I started thinking about what it would be like if we had imaging process for the soul like we do for other parts of our body. What would it be like to have a place where we could get a “soul checkup”? What would the image of our soul visually look like? If it needed repair how would that show up on the image? How would it be mapped? Would we map it according to St. Teresa of Avila’s mansions containing different rooms each having their own stage or would it be more etherial in nature? Wouldn’t it be helpful if we could get a print out or an x-ray that would show us what needed the most attention in our spiritual world? Not only that but it might be able to show us when the soul healed if it had been “broken or torn”.
Well, of course, there isn’t a magical imaging process to pinpoint your soul work. And, everyone’s journey is so individualized. But there are those who have training to listen intently and sit with you as you explore where or how spirituality touches your life. They provide a space where your soul can speak out. It can be a time of soul searching and healing or celebrating joys. If you are looking for a safe sacred space where you can be curious about how Spirit is moving in your life I encourage you to reach out. I would be happy to connect you with a spiritual director. Do yourself a favor and listen to your own soul singing out to you!

The Surface of the Soul
Is the surface of the soul like moon stained craters....
Or aquamarine like magical glaciers....
Is the surface of the soul scarred with battle wounds.....
Or is it a sheet of ice you lie beneath with lips of frozen blue.....
Is it a field that stretches forever with happy wildflowers.....
Or sands of time with secret dunes that devour prescious hours.....
At the surface of the soul, no encounter is by chance.
No matter what the terrain of your inner land.
You must sink or dive below the surface,
to ever really know.....

The quiet is best. Then
one might hear what is
strung too loose, too tight,
how the voicing is not
quite right. Not so long ago,
the tuner brought
this same instrument back
to true. But there is no failure.
that the instrument
went out of tune.
That’s is simply
what instruments do—
go sharp, go flat,
they waver until
once again the temperament
is set and then
song is what a life does—
we feel it the change
in every note—
oh the bliss of being in tune
with ourselves and
with every other instrument.
Then no matter how old
we are, we are new.
