Sacred moments
Poetry Friday

Friends,
I’m spending more time intentionally paying attention to tiny moments of ordinary life that bring me joy. These feel like sacred moments that I could easily pass by if I am preoccupied with busyness in my mind. It’s a good way to be grateful and to stay present in the here and now. For example, the other day I was eating lunch and as I glanced outside the window there was a man sharing time with what seemed to be his daughter. He was sitting on a concrete platform and his daughter was skipping along the length of the platform giggling and exuding such joy! Two days ago I saw a sunset that had pretty blues, streaks of pink, and clouds of gray that blended into yellows. I was stopped at the red-light so I took a picture. The scenery was not the greatest as you can see. If I had focused on the electric scaffolding instead of looking beyond it, I would have missed those beautiful colors right in front of me. A tiny sacred moment.
I have noticed when I try to put words to my sacred moment to capture them for someone else, the words never live up to the moment I experienced. My theory is that God makes these sacred moments to only be experience in the present. It’s a special gift, if we can catch them. The only thing close are pictures with no words. Pictures can be seen in a split second glance and go straight to our heart without the interpretation of words.
This week may you intentionally look for those tiny sacred moments in your life!

Sacred Moments In a world filled with too many bodies but too little minds In our race to beat the next deadline Do you ever notice those tiny moments: When you catch a glimpse of our being Like the little smile from that old woman when you buy her ware without bargaining. Like the fleeting moment of recognition when you lock eyes with a stranger. Like the flutter in your heart any time you hear that song. Like the tears that clouds your eyes whenever you see an act of kindness in movie. Like the grin that spreads across your face when you hit that ‘Like’ button because you relate to this poem. It is amazing to realize how much our seemingly little acts reverberates across the universe. by Victhur Ihuka from: https://face2faceafrica.com/article/moments-poem
AWARENESS
I might sense
the slight tightening
of a stitch,
an awareness
of being hemmed in,
then easily miss
the way you weave
your miracles
in the mundane.
Unless my eyes
are open, noticing,
ready for
a surprise, prepared
to watch and see
what lies behind
the ordinary,
then I could glimpse
the deftly woven
warp and weft
of your holy threads,
your embroidering.
Although it is more
than a visual
response, more than
a second glance
required to
observe a sacred
hand at work,
a gentle touch
igniting the humble
soil of earth.
Because you ask
me to look
inwardly as well
as outwardly,
to catch the softest
tread of your
footsteps inside
my expectant heart
as you walk,
fill it with your love,
your presence,
and your thoughts.
