Living Into.....
Poetry Friday

This is the season of Advent. Advent begins on December 1st and lasts 4 weeks. It is marked by a time of waiting and a time of focusing on your inner self to prepare (as was done long ago) for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. It is tradition to light a candle each Sunday leading up to Christmas. The first candle represents hope.
Hope.
What do you think about when you see that word?
When I think about hope, I contemplate and envision on how I can live into what I want the world around me to feel and look like. Oh, I know that you and I don’t have the power to change the global chaos. Or do we? You see, I believe that each of us has something to do when we start each new day. We have a responsibility to live into the way we interact and connect with those around us. We live into how we believe creatures and our environment should be treated. We live into the world we want our children to grow up in. And, living into all that is HOPE!
While it is true that this can’t change everything in our world, it can change what we control in and around us. Hope is not stationary. Hope is living into action. Simple acts of kindness reverberate more than the one act alone. What you put out into the world by living into what you value and hope for truly makes a difference. Every small step brings us closer to a better world. Also know, I have days that I don’’t always live into my best and I suspect so do you. If you have one of those moments or one of those days, well friends, there is another day ahead to do better!
So on this Black Friday where people are rushing around to buy gifts or visiting with family that might be getting on your nerves, practice giving out hope. Practice living into the next moment where what you hope for can become a reality.
And, may the day land gently with you,

A House Called Tomorrow
You are not fifteen, or twelve, or seventeen—
You are a hundred wild centuries
And fifteen, bringing with you
In every breath and in every step
Everyone who has come before you,
All the yous that you have been,
The mothers of your mother,
The fathers of your father.
If someone in your family tree was trouble,
A hundred were not:
The bad do not win—not finally,
No matter how loud they are.
We simply would not be here
If that were so.
You are made, fundamentally, from the good.
With this knowledge, you never march alone.
You are the breaking news of the century.
You are the good who has come forward
Through it all, even if so many days
Feel otherwise. But think:
When you as a child learned to speak,
It’s not that you didn’t know words—
It’s that, from the centuries, you knew so many,
And it’s hard to choose the words that will be your own.
From those centuries we human beings bring with us
The simple solutions and songs,
The river bridges and star charts and song harmonies
All in service to a simple idea:
That we can make a house called tomorrow.
What we bring, finally, into the new day, every day,
Is ourselves. And that’s all we need
To start. That’s everything we require to keep going.
Look back only for as long as you must,
Then go forward into the history you will make.
Be good, then better. Write books. Cure disease.
Make us proud. Make yourself proud.
And those who came before you? When you hear thunder,
Hear it as their applause.

Metamorphosis: A Poem of Hope and Healing
We are born knowing nothing,
The world an unpainted canvas,
Colored by wonder and curiosity.
But reality tempers imagination;
The joys and sorrows of youth,
Are forgotten as time flows onward.
Nurtured by a love,
Complex and unknown.
Shaping us with its beauty,
And its painful darkness.
A gem that once shines,
May lose luster with time.
But underneath the surface,
Just out of reach,
Is an untold beauty,
Hidden in the shadows,
Ready to be set free,
As hope reawakens.
There lies a single candle,
And we hold the match.
For darkness has no place,
Facing the light of courage.
The fire grows stronger,
And from the ashes, we rise.
Painful memories,
Colored once again,
With hope and love.
Unchanged, yet accepted,
Nurtured by our own hands,
Like a seed planted in the earth,
That springs forth from the frost,
When the warmth of spring returns.
Pain.
Struggle.
Learning.
Persevering.
Healing.
Growing.
Changing.
Metamorphosis.

But now
what can I do
but marvel
as hope grows
like a seed
without soil,
putting down
roots despite
lack. And isn’t
that what hope
is—a sprout
that grows
when conditions
are poor,
as if to prove
that sometimes
potential
depends less
on what
surrounds us,
more on what
is living
through us.

Lyrics:
You carry the weight
Much better than I do
Day after day
Waiting for good news
All of our needs
Our hopes and our dreams
Are waiting on an open door
I see a spark of light in the dark
We'll be stronger than before
We gotta love like we've never been hurt We gotta rise like we've never been burned
And after all of the lessons we've learned
We're gonna make this a beautiful world
A beautiful world, oh, oh
Gonna make this a beautiful world, oh, oh
A beautiful world
I'll carry the weight
No mountain is too high
It's never too late
There's always a sunrise
All of our needs
Our hopes and our dreams
Are waiting on an open door
I see a spark of light in the dark We'll be wiser than before
We gotta love like we've never been hurt We gotta rise like we've never been burned
And after all of the lessons we've learned
We're gonna make this a beautiful world
A beautiful world, oh, oh
We gonna make this a beautiful world, oh, oh
A beautiful world
When we come together
Everything's gonna be much better
When we come together
We gotta love like we've never been hurt
Rise like we've never been burned
And after all of the lessons we've learned
We're gonna make this a beautiful world
A beautiful world, oh, oh
We gonna make this a beautiful world, oh, oh
A beautiful world
When we come together
Everything's gonna be much better
When we come together
We gotta love like we've never been hurt
Rise like we've never been burned
And after all of the lessons we've learned
We're gonna make it, gonna make this
A beautiful world, oh, oh
Gonna make this a beautiful world, oh, oh
Make this a beautiful world
When we come together (when we come together)
We're gonna make this a beautiful world
When we come together, oh, oh
We're gonna make this a beautiful world
When we come together, oh, oh
We're gonna make this a beautiful world
